When it Raynes was originally released in the General Contemporary genre of lesbian fiction for which it received a 2015 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention and was a 2016 Golden Crown Literary Society Finalist for the Ann Bannon Popular Choice Award. For as proud as CD Cain was of the story, she always felt she left something missing from the original publication. So, she went back to the keyboard and revised the powerful love story of Rayne and Sam to publish as a Lesbian Romance with Fleur-De-Lis Books.

The revised edition of When It Raynes was released this weekend. Since its original publication, my life has seen heartbreaking losses and joyful gains. On the other side of these experience, I have changed. My heart has changed. My fingers upon the keys have changed in a way that I couldn’t find the words for After the Storm. When I went back to read When It Raynes, I realized I was no longer the same author nor had I given to my characters the voice I wanted them to have. So, I went back to the keyboard to revise the original version in the voice I now had for both myself and my characters. The story in itself remains the same but I hope anyone who wishes to revisit Rayne, her family and of course…Sam finds that their personalities flow from the pages.

I absolutely love the whole Rayne series. I cannot imagine it being better but I must find out!! Where am I able to purchase a revised copy? The writing style that is used in a CD Cain book is one that can evoke such emotion and pictures just by her words. I have missed Rayne it is time for me to reaquaint myself with her!!

Just finished reading the revised version of When it Raynes..well actually because I’m that kind of a nerd girl I would read a couple of chapters of the original and then read the same chapters of the revised. The differences were subtle but it gave you a better insight to Sam and her thoughts..the first book was great and this version just escalated my opinions on your talent..of course I now must go reread a couple of chapters because I never seem to be able to get through them with out crying and I know I have missed over half of the words cause I couldn’t see!!

Thank you so much for letting me know your thoughts! It was tough with the changes. I wanted to strengthen the characters, especially Sam, flesh out their connection more and give insight into why the ending was what it was. Yet I wanted to be careful not to make so many changes that readers would be lost if they went straight into book 3. It was a delicate balance.
I’m sorry for the tears but that is a huge compliment to a writer–to be able to evoke such emotion! So thank you for sharing.

Hi CD, I’m excited to read a new revised version “When it Raynes.” This is still one of my favorite books. I also missed the release of Book 3 “After the Storm” somehow so I will save that to read after. I actually was not able to get Book 3 on Amazon. Do you know where I can purchase it? Anyway, I am looking forward to diving back into your words!

You didn’t miss it. I got setback with the release of the third. Over the last couple of years my life has seen some really big changes. So much so that I didn’t have the same tone when it came to writing. Because reflected on the pages of the third book, I bought back the rights to the first two, set out with Fleur-de-lis Books and revised When It Raynes. I’m very sorry for the delay in continuing this story. But I do hope you will like the changes. I’d love to know what you think of them!

Hi C.D.! New fan here! I was an absolute mess after this book!!!! I love your writing style and how you told the story. I am so excited to see that there is another book, possibly two more?? I was wondering when the second one will be released, I am way too excited to see how things go for Rayne… even though I see Sam and Rayne will be taking some time apart, I hope they eventually get together in the end! *crosses fingers* 🙂

I don’t know an exact time on the publishing date for the second book but I am currently working on the revisions and edits. With Fleur-de-lis Books I’m able to publish things a little quicker after they have been edited. I’ll post something as soon as I know.
I have to admit that Rayne and Sam have a special place in my heart too. I’m glad I’ve given them a good story!

These two books are one of my all time favourite books.
I was half hoping you would change the ending of the book in your revised version but in the end happy to see there is more to come for Sam and Rayne.
Your books make me dream about visiting Louisiana one day , your writing made me fall in love with all things Louisiana now.
I have been going through a tough time and this book brought me great pleasure and hope.

There was a subtle change to the ending of the first book. It was within the dialogue between Rayne and Sam. The ending to me still needed to be the way it was for the benefit of the characters but it always nagged at me that I didn’t show more of what they were both feeling. I knew when I republished the books I had the chance to write the wrongs of words left off of the page.
I’m so happy they do give you dreams of my home state and that you’ve enjoyed the books. I’ve seen a picture of the state of Louisiana with roots growing out of one end of the boot. I’ve wanted to get it ever since. The culture of the state will always be my roots. I’m proud I could share my love of her beauty in my writing. Maybe you will get to visit her one day.
I’m sorry you have been growing through a touch time. I do hope it is starting to ease for you. It touches me to know something I put out in this world gave you a little pleasure and hope during this tough time.
